Wandesborow
This is the castle mentioned by Malory as besieged by the people that were lawless as well as
Saracen in the War of the Eleven Kings. At the close of the battle of
Bedegraine, a messenger arrives to inform the eleven kings that these lawless and Saracen people have
invaded the lands, burning and slaying without mercy and have besieged
Wandesborow. We do not know which city this is, since the name is an Anglo-Saxon name, signifying
the borough of Wand. Malory presumably means that the invaders were a mixture of Pict and Saxon
which would signify one of the northen fortified cities either along Hadrian's wall or the coast.
