March ab Meirchion
March ab Meirchion or the King Mark of the Romances was a prince whose territory is said to have been in
Cornwall. The romances have painted him in a poor light but by reading between the lines, we see that he was an important
personage in the Arthurian realm. As one of the chief merchant or naval princes, his position ensured that Arthur would support
him in the problems associated with an unruly nephew and an errant wife. You could say that March was particularly
unfortunate in having such a nephew as Trystan, and such a wife as Essyllt, the Sir Tristrem and Yseult La Belle of the French
Trouveres.
